Here are the main features and selling points of Graphene OS:
* All Android Apps are still available. My reccomendation is to use F-Droid downloaded from Vanadium or a secure mobile browser with a VPN as well as all F-Droid repos. Aurora Store is also a great option with spoofing features and black list options for all apps. You will still have a working, modern, phone, just more freedom and less spying.
* GrapheneOS is generally the most security‑hardened option among consumer mobile operating systems, with strong app sandboxing, reduced attack surface, and minimal built‑in data sharing compared to standard Android.
* Compared with iPhone, GrapheneOS offers more control and a smaller trust base. Unlike Apple and iPhones, Graphene OS does not have access to your photo library, text messages, etc.
* Against typical Android phones, GrapheneOS significantly reduces Google integration, tightens permissions, and adds additional OS‑level hardening for better privacy and security. You don't have to have google AT ALL. Though Graphene OS offers a sandboxed version of Google Play Services and Play Store if you want or need to use Play Store for any apps. Graphene OS also has a private sanboxed profile that can house said apps.
* Compared with CalyxOS, GrapheneOS prioritizes aggressive security enhancements, while CalyxOS favors a more user‑friendly, accessibility‑oriented de‑Google‑Android experience.
* Compared with PureOS/Purism (Librem 5), GrapheneOS is usually regarded as more mature and better hardened, leveraging Pixel‑specific hardware security rather than a from‑scratch phone stack.
* GrapheneOS is best if your main goal is maximum security and privacy on a supported Pixel. Graphene OS only works with Google Pixel Models.
