Description
Black powder is a cheap and versatile propellant for firearms, rockets, 37mm launchers, fireworks, etc.
With the Biden-admin regulations on Black Powder, several major producers of black powder have gone out of business, with black powder now costing more than smokeless powder. As a result most people are producing black powder at home. Most people fail to get burn rates as fast as commercial black powder. This is primarily due to not corning the black powder, which involves wetting it then compressing it dry which allows the KNO3 to crystalize throughout the charcoal and sulfur. Usually homemade methods involve using very fine ball milling and alcohol mixing, but this rarely produces as intimate mixture as corning. Additionally grains produced from breaking corned discs are much harder and more durable leading to more consistent burn rate which contributes to accuracy and safety (although slow burning black powder is naturally safe due to being weak).
Most pressing dies on the market are metal which not only are sparking, but they are extremely expensive costing hundreds to thousands of dollars since they are intended for sintering and lab purposes. The high tolerance is also counterproductive as it does not allow liquid to escape the die under compression. This plastic die set also works with a a vise instead of requiring a hydraulic press that most people don't have access to. It can work with a hydraulic press though.
