What are Web3 domains?

Web3 Domains are new kind of web extension (like .COM or .ORG) that are launched as smart contracts on public blockchains. Similar to how their DNS counterparts serve as a "phone book" for IP addresses when you browse the web, Web3 domains serve as phone book entries for cryptocurrency wallet addresses. This makes sending and receiving crypto easier, more secure, and gives you a self-sovereign identity you can use across the decentralized web.

Web3 Domains are stored as NFT's in their owners' wallets, and no third party can take them away. Pay once, and you own the domain for life, with no renewal fees. These domains exist as ERC-721 tokens on Ethereum and Polygon.

DNS domains such as .COM, .NET, .ORG, etc. can also be tokenized and put onchain and used in the same way. (Though these do have renewal fees.)

Unstoppable Domains has 1000+ partner applications like Brave browser, Phantom wallet, and other premier crypto apps where these onchain domains resolve.
