Auto Cleanup (AKA Expiring Listings)

You get some people who create an account, put up a listing and leave the site never to return for whatever reason (maybe they lost account access, or perhaps they didn't set up an external messenger such as SimpleX)

Either way, they are gone and don't respond to DMs to check if a product is still available.

My suggestion: Listings should expire and need to be "renewed every 180 or 365 days. If a listing is expired it is not visible in search or available to other users.

After 1 year of a listing being expired without renewal it would be removed automatically to free up storage space on the server.

This would mean that a listing is kept for a minimum of one and a half years and possibly up to two years. If a person doesn't interact with a listing in that time, it's dead.

That and/or give option to "hide listings older than X days/months and/or if the user hasn't been online for Y days/months" I encounter too many zombie listings/accs that I would rather not see in the search results bc as you said when the listing or the poster hasn't been around in ages, they simply mostly don't matter anymore...

Look at Craigslist. Although their expiration mechanic is a bit too aggressive.

Having it expired after a year sounds reasonable, unless the seller going to log back in. Email provider like Proton Mail also doing the same approach to inactive user

I'd go with the login check instead of listings expiring too, since as far as I know, there's only a four-space alphanumeric code for listings here. Gotta preserve'em.
