Newcomers will not check all existing listings. Likely only boosted and newly added. But there are interesting listings hidden deep inside. So I suggest adding banner with random listing to increase chance of buyer staying on site and finding his seller. Also boosted listing usually fall in the same category, so adding banner with random listing will make main page more diverse.

Agreed.

Boosted listings are important to provide something towards maintaining this site, but it would be good to push some more variety as well

Definitely. Perhaps allow trusted users to vet listings before they get shown there, with the purpose being to avoid low quality slop listings from ruining it.
