Yesterday in the Monero Simplex group chat, someone suggested banning an XmrBazaar user who registered accounts like "xmrbazaar," "xmr," and "monero" shortly after our launch in June 2024. They're now trying to sell them, even approaching "XmrBazaar staff" (me🤭) for a "deal"🤣. This approach won't succeed, and may backfire.

XmrBazaar enforces a strict anti-impersonation policy: If you squat a unique name belonging to a reputable Monero community member, we'll transfer it to them upon request & verification via official channels (e.g., GitHub, Matrix, X). This already has happened VERY quickly for several VERY well-known figures in Monero (if they see this post, they can confirm publicly if they wish ;) ).

We did negotiate once, with the user who registered "MoneroBULL" in good faith(!), unaware of its association with our longstanding community member monerobull. They even clarified in their profile that they weren't the same person. Later we agreed to transfer the "monerobull" name to monerobull, and the original user became MoneroMAGO: one of our earliest, most active/successful sellers with 172 successful trades and 151 five-star reviews, many from established (not throwaway) accounts.

Building reputation in Monero community goes beyond public reviews; word of mouth is VERY powerful. I often share honest feedback in DMs: praising honest users and good people for their integrity; OR noting full record of shady behaviors for potential bad actors like alts / self-reviewing / squatting and beyond. This creates a ripple effect in private conversations (good for good people, bad for bad people)🌊

That said, I won't ban the "xmrbazaar" account. In our tight-knit community, self-regulation works: downvotes on the listing and discussions in the trollbox and chats highlight shady actors every time.

TL;DR: Scammy or unproductive "business" models fail long- (and sometimes short-) term. Success in Monero P2P Economy comes from offering needed products/services, acting with honesty, and earning TRUST. The community rewards integrity with loyalty and business.
