Yes, this 12L size would be the right fit for a family of three. You'll go through more water than you think and the larger capacity means you'll have more clean water ready to go when needed. You'll still only need two filters because they're rated for around 800 gallons of use which should be more than enough for a family of three, but you do have the option to add an additional pair of filters if you wanted faster filtration.
We know the value of not drinking from the "mainstream" and so do Monero users!
The test results rate them for at least one year of use with two filters. That amount of water they're rated for is almost 800 gallons minimum so a family of three will still fit within that range.
