La Balconcina B&B is an independent accommodation in Riola, in the heart of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, about one hour from Bologna and Pistoia. It is located inside the historic Villini Archetta Mattei, built by Count Cesare Mattei, the same visionary who created the famous Rocchetta Mattei castle, just a few minutes away. Surrounded by woodland, La Balconcina is for travellers who prefer character, freedom, privacy and a slower rhythm to conventional mass tourism.
Riola is an exceptionally rich corner of the Italian Apennines, where art, architecture, history and nature are concentrated within a remarkably small area: Rocchetta Mattei, Alvar Aalto's church, the medieval village of La Scola, Montovolo, Giorgio Morandi's landscapes, the Labante waterfalls and caves, Lake Suviana, Porretta Terme and the high Apennine mountains.
The apartment accommodates up to 4 guests and offers an equipped kitchen, bedroom, lounge, bathroom, Liberty-style balcony overlooking the forest and fast Starlink internet. It is an ideal base for independent-minded travellers, photographers, artists, creatives, remote workers, hikers and anyone looking for nature, inspiration, quiet and time to breathe.
