Description
The first wine produced from the Masseto vineyard is that of the 1986 harvest. It was simply called "Merlot". The name Masseto appeared on the label with the 1987 harvest. Masseto is a wine with a great and complex personality in which the remarkable structure is always combined with a beautiful elegance. Each vintage has its own identity and represents, for the pleasure of its enthusiasts, the incredible possibilities of interpretation that variations in climate can offer: the noble opulence of 2001, the dense tannic structure of 1998, or the great elegance of 2007... So each vintage of Masseto is unique, and, at the same time, it is one with the others. It therefore represents a single testimony to the special alliance between terroir, climate and human talent that defines Masseto, and together demonstrates the timeless value of this wine. Climate and vintage The 2006 vintage was characterized by a rainy winter and warm spring days that induced flowering beyond the first week of June. The period April – August was almost devoid of rainfall and this led the vines to produce bunches slightly smaller than normal. The summer that was not excessively hot allowed the vines to develop good aromatic and productive potential. The excellent climatic conditions during ripening, combined with the small size of the berries, made it possible to obtain grapes with exceptional concentration levels at all levels, sugars, tannins but also a higher acidity than usual. At the beginning of the harvest, the grapes presented themselves perfectly: concentrated and homogeneously ripe. The harvest took place in four stages between September 6th with the 'Masseto Alto' and September 23rd with the 'Masseto Centrale' part. Denomination: IGT Toscana
