Too many people are trusting strangers and losing their money to scammers. (Perhaps they think the order process somehow protects them like how buying stuff from companies in the fiat world works.. I don't know). Anyway the losses are tragic, undoubtedly turning all such people away from P2P commerce entirely.

(Scammer accounts are getting more sophisticated too. Look at azingplug.)

The least XmrBazaar can do is WARN people to think twice before sending direct! Pretty please?

+1. this one is fair — people should be warned properly about all the dangers. i have already spoken about a case, where guy scammed me 3 XMR, got a scammer warning, and succeeded to scam some guy even once again, who managed not to notice the warning (why the fuck proven scammers don't get banned?!). i understand market anarchy is all about autonomy and shit, but c'mon, it looks like we don't care.

I can kind of understand why they don't ban known scammers, because then you can follow their activities. If you ban them, they will just make a new account and you have to restart the process all over again. You also can't really hold someone's hand with crypto. They should be doing test transactions with people of unknown reputation. IMO it's common sense.

The gov does the same thing, like they might follow a "bad guy" for months to years instead of arresting/killing him since it's a lot easier to handle a known threat than an unknown one. The CIA's MO is to create a gang/terror group filled to the brim with moles and let that ward off any unknown gang/terror group while keeping Uncle Sam's fingers out of the theater.

I have proposed an idea today to make scam situation better, let me know what you think (I asked Doug and btdev to read this thread):
"I have an idea related to this discussion (please read it: https://xmrbazaar.com/forum/topic/103/), but it would also help promote bonds, increase safety, and motivate honest but lazy people to offer the escrow option. We should treat ALL listings without an escrow and/or bond option as we treat NSFW now: to see them, users would need to have an account, AND there would be a warning near the checkbox stating that they should use direct payments only with trusted sellers, like friends or those with whom they've made repeated purchases. We wouldn't show listings without escrow or bonds to non-logged-in users. This way, we can protect naive newcomers from stumbling upon scammers immediately."

The escrow red lock should not be placed on digital file listings as there isn't escrow since the download is delivered by XMR Bazaar upon detecting the transaction.

NSFW hiding should also not be applied in this case either. For me all my listings are actually NSFW, so it doesn't affect me, but for people who are selling regular files, like a PDF book or something.

Can you introduce a threshold by which if your have X amount of trades with an average review score above X that you are not automatically hidden from new users without accounts?

Does hidden listings also apply to boosted posts?

One thing everyone needs to keep in mind is that folks generally want speed and convenience over security - direct payment with trusted individuals is the best of both worlds.

People can also avoid scams by making listings for requests instead of purchasing - this way services are first delivered before payment is given, and you can set the terms of the transaction leveraging your personal profile's rep.

This is how I have personally been able to make many trades here without any issues of scams.

This is good! I see in the bonds section, Tuman and AilliA are the only holders and mediators. Are there plans to open up these roles to more people the way that there are currently a handful of escrow mediators?

Also I hope that those bond funds are extremely well secured. It would be tragic to lose all those bonds like the Monero community fund a few months back.

i wonder if it makes sense for me to use escrow. i sell small amounts of digital gift cards, would there even be a way for me to prove i didn't scam someone if they just redeem the card and claim the code didn't work making me lose twice.

Good point. One way to do this for gift cards would be to provide the gift card code to the mediator *first* to allow him or her to confirm the balance, then after confirmation, the seller or the mediator can release the code to the buyer.

i am not aware of any method to confirm gift card codes are not already redeemed unless you redeem them yourself or maybe contact support which might take ages depending on the platform.
