Thanks, I did see that, but I didn't know he was an XmrBazaar user. That's cool. I was planning to use that before I saw Null Cart. The main thing that attracted me to Null Cart is that it has the shopping and discount stuff all integrated. I'll probably write a review of the two in Freedom Tech when I do use them.

Right now I'm swamped with work though, so it will probably be a while before I can sit down and get everything going. My IRL business is basically running at 100% non stop so I'm busy with expansion, and I'm also working with another user here in making a VR FPS video game. He's the one I'm probably going to make a Null Cart shop for as he makes porn games and has plans for selling figurines and other physical merch, but he doesn't want to rely on Patreon since apparently they could eventually ban him since he's far-right and they've been canceling accounts of porn game devs. Null Cart probably could be a backup to his existing XmrBazaar account. If it goes well there is probably going to be a lot of other devs who might be interested and it could help expand monero use a bit. Using monero to counter cancel culture is an ideal end use.

He was also looking at goxmr (https://goxmr.click/s3_digital) and it's a pretty nice site, but the killer is that they only allow you to list prices in XMR, and can't fix it to fiat. So it's pretty much unusable during crabbing like now unless you micromanage the prices which is a pain in the butt. One of the greatest features of XmrBazaar and in Null Cart is that you can fix prices to dollar which makes it more practical as a shop you can set and forget. I think one reason a lot of guys here don't get sales is they list it in XMR, and then so when XMR naturally goes up as fiat devalues, their prices ends up being way too high and people don't buy from them. Which creates a downward spiral as when sellers don't get sales, they stop coming here or listing items. Wouldn't be a problem normally, except most sellers here only have an XmrBazaar store, and aren't driving traffic to here from their normal fiat business. I can't do that since most of my IRL customers are glowies and the gov hates Monero, but I intend to start a second non-USG business eventually.

I ve finished adding Bitcoin support to the NullCart store.

Starting today, NullCart store customers can choose between Bitcoin and Monero when paying.

Adding a second supported cryptocurrency also makes it easier to add more cryptocurrencies in the future. If there’s enough interest, adding new ones should be fairly straightforward.

Asynchronously to my work, I received a private question from one of the users of XMR Bazaar, and I will answer it:

Is NullCart a project competing with XMR Bazaar?

No, I do not consider NullCart to be a competing project to XMR Bazaar, because XMR Bazaar is a P2P marketplace, while NullCart is focused on self-hosting individual stores. It is a somewhat different model.

The goal of NullCart is to help build a crypto economy by reducing to a minimum the entry threshold for opening one’s own store, which can operate internationally and outside the control of financial institutions. The goal of NullCart is not to create a P2P marketplace that would compete with XMR Bazaar.

I suspect that some XMR Bazaar users may be interested in hosting their own NullCart store and connecting it to XMR Bazaar as an external service. But in the end, everything related to Monero still ends up linked on XMR Bazaar, because there is quite a lot of traffic here from people interested in Monero.

If the administration thinks otherwise, I can of course stop promoting my store on this site. However, sooner or later, someone will want to link NullCart as an “external service” on XMR Bazaar anyway—they will simply learn about the project from another source. Unless, of course, you take it a step further and prohibit linking to external stores.

Today I added small UX improvement update.

Adding items to the cart from the bottom of a long list redirected the user to the very top because, after the redirect, the page lost its scroll position, which resulted in a poor UX experience.

With today’s update, after adding an item to the cart from the bottom of the list, the page will be displayed at the position of the product card that was added to the cart.

Additionally, I refactored the way feedback is displayed. Previously, the feedback was displayed statically at the top of the page, which wasn’t visible when the user had scrolled to the bottom of the page. Now, the feedback is displayed as a no-JS toast, regardless of the scroll position.

Small update

Since every NullCart instance automatically has its own onion version, I added the onion-location configuration. This means that when NullCart clients are using the clearnet version in the Tor Browser, an “onion site available” button will be displayed.

Announcement: I am starting work on the next NullCart feature- the JS/no-JS switch.

This will allow users to optionally enable features that require JavaScript. When JS is enabled, it will be used only to improve the site’s UX.

Building the site without JavaScript significantly limits our possibilities, which results in a worse UX. On the other hand, it is recommended that transactions requiring a greater degree of privacy be carried out with JS disabled.

Unfortunately, in this case, you cannot have everything at once, but NullCart aims to be a one-size-fits-all store, satisfying both customers who require maximum privacy and those whose threat model allows for a somewhat more relaxed approach, enabling them to enjoy a better UX.

Concept of js/no-js switch changed mid-work. I shipped minimal JavaScript UX improvement and for now the only thing that uses JS is copy button. Copy buttons are displayed next to amount and address on invoice. I think it is most irritating thing when you have to manually select -> copy -> paste addresses and amounts. That's why I decided for it. For users with JavaScript disabled those buttons won't be displayed. For everything else I think native HTML/CSS solutions are good enough.

I also planned to refactor messenger to E2E encrypted with PGP, but I abandoned this idea, because I learned mid-work that it doesn't buy us a lot due to limitations of web. Problem I wanted to solve with E2E messenger is when server gets compromised, attacker won't be able to decrypt chat. But then I realized that someone with access to server could also serve malicious js to the clients that could read keys and decrypt messages. This is problem with integrity that messengers like SimpleX solve by not being web application. I will be honest about this limitation and I recommend to users with the highest OPSEC to use NullCart without JavaScript and move communication with shop into SimpleX. The next feature I’ve added is a blog.

Why is it worth running a blog when you have an online store? There are a few good reasons:

- It improves SEO.
- It helps attract new customers.
- It builds trust and expertise.
- It allows you to promote products.

Although it is worth doing, running a blog is optional. The blog can be disabled in the CMS.

I’m coming today with a small NullCart update. I added a new section to the promotional website nullcart.net called “Instances.” I will place the current NullCart store instances there. The current list of instances will also be updated in the first post of this thread. I decided to do this because, in the meantime, the first public store, accsnake.com, appeared, dealing with the sale of accounts for online services. I want to focus more on promoting NullCart now, because all the functionalities for the MVP are already ready. Now would be nice to have more instances! If you have any suggestions on how I can effectively advertise NullCart, let me know. Currently, I advertise on Bitcointalk, XMR Bazaar, and Monerica.
