I uploaded one jpg via ZK, when I opened it and tried right click save, it attempted to download as txt that was interesting. I modified the extension to jpg and it downloaded the image correctly. Is the attempt to download it as txt intentional?

I'd really like to see the the fancier image formats like AVIF to become more common on the web. I'd like to suggest option to convert the image and save it like that which's work for server, conversion, but space reduction is a long term benefit. Thoughts?

SoulReaver This txt case was probably, because in ZK mode server don't know image extension, so after local image decryption some browsers might not sniff it's extension and fallback to txt. However I couldn't reproduce this in tor browser. Which browser and OS did you use? I hardened that by setting image extension explicitly after decryption. Can you confirm that it works for you now?

I though-through AVIF and it has much more cons than pros.

babyboi098 I saw you mentioned in review that URLs are lengthy, but it is by design. URLs hold encryption key and this is main source of length. We could shorten it by 15-20 chars, but compromising security and privacy. No big win. I think it should be acceptable for privacy focused image hosting.

yes but that was specifically referring to public type uploads (hot link). in that case, it doesn't matter right?

Yeah, for hotlink server also don't store encryption key. Hotlink image is encrypted at rest and is decrypted on request with key from URL. This is mainly done for crypto shred. It ensures image is not recoverable after deletion from disk without key. Deleting from hard drives don't guarantee all bytes are gone, but when we store only encrypted blobs, recovered bytes are useless without key which is never stored on the server.

idea: you should get yourself listed on various knowledgebases and maybe make a dread post too, and also privacyguide and privacytools, make a reddit post as well. once you get a lot of traffic, you can use that to get sponsers who can advertise their service or social on the front page. like XmrBazaar does.

I looked into this further, and I need to correct what I said earlier: the improvement is possible, but only for hotlink. We can make hotlink urls ~half of today's length without compromising anything. I am implementing this, because it is true that too long links are jarring.

Yeah, I will advertise it further. Currently I advertise on Bitcointalk and here. I won't rather sell ads on this website, but I will probably advertise my other FOSS projects. Something like "check my other FOSS projects" banner with NullCart and maybe other projects.

brave browser windows 10.
I tried again uploaded a webp it spit as webp, uploaded a jpg it offers to save as jfif. Would be ideal if it were to preserve exact .jpg extension IMO. I know jfif and jpg are interchangeable, thought some software can still be iffy on intake about extensions.

Url shortening update for hotlink just landed. I was able to reduce hotlink link size for around a half (part of the link after domain) without any compromises on images privacy or security. Now new hotlinks looks like this: https://privateimage.net/h/dNWssjvwVrKoyOLtSsH8-zk3Uy_oHNRb-WuHYxMWIWQ. Here is old hotlink for comparision https://privateimage.net/h/0c46b08b-106c-4319-8fc8-2fa0f4e8cbc2/nP9-OR91aBWC0d4pnziHVGNlmU4PC5Q4rWs1ChYxifA

Man nobswebdev is cranking out bangers one after the other. This is an incredibly useful site especially for here since the messenger doesn't support image hosting.
